Monopoly

Photobucket

On the corner of santa ana and otis, b&b have taken over. They have formed a monopoly on that corner or as my dad said "they have cornered the corner." They own the water joint, the liquor store and the check cashing place. I wonder if the owners were brainstorming ideas and were like "What business do mexicans need?" Obviously we heart our water joints, liquor store and check cashing store. crafty b&b.

maybe i'll learn geeetar

Went to the local community center (that's redundant). I'd never been, I didn't know HP had a park let alone a community center. Anyway, I went to help the missus pick out a class to take and I'd figured maybe I could sign up for a class too. She decided to take Zumba and I decided to take nothing. None of the classes looked interesting and as tempting as cake decorating seemed, I had to pass. The lady thought perhaps the little bro could take a guitar class since all he does is watch tv and maybe there's more to life than tv. bah, who am I kidding.

damn internet

So i'm like on de bus and I see this sticker

Photobucket

Like the curious kid that I am I go check out the website. Apparently for $1 I can get a copy of the sticker and find out this fellows identity. Look, I'm not spending a $1 to get the picture of some Joe Shmoe who just wants to rip me off. It's porbably some nerd who thought "Wouldn't it be cool if I put these stickers up?" You know what, no. It is not cool John Scott.

I also enjoyed that it was rather near this sign telleing me not to vandalize and to snitch on those that do.

I wonder what this person was about to tag. A persons name? A gang affiliation? A cake recipe? I'll never know because they refuse to tell me.

awk, this is killing me.

Ok, for the two people that read this blog, i have a favor/question. For the past few days this has been bothering. Have you heard the Arcade Fire song "keep the car running"? Alright, I like the song, I think it's a very good song but I believe they stole the beat from another song from the '80s. What song is it, or do all '80s songs sound the same? I've asked Pearl, Andrea and Tony and they all agree it sounds like an '80s song but which one? Tony will now make it his mission to find out. Gracias Tony but anyone else could you please go to project playlist or youtube and listen to "Keep the car running" and find out. I'll still make it my mission though.

Update: My dad says it's the Stray Cats "Sexy at 17" with a slowed down tempo. Maybe it is but the song I'm thinking of is the exact same beat. I'll keep looking.

My neighbors have fake roosters on their lawn. I don't get it. Why not get the real thing? Although, I guess, I'm glad they don't have real roosters because I don't like waking up at 4 a.m. by the sound of dumb roosters a-crowing (or whatever roosters do) but still, why the fake roosters?

Look I know I live on a block that is predominately brown (except for the three white people that didn't get the white flight memo) but roosters, fake roosters?
Look family who lives in that house with the fake roosters you're almost as bad as the lady with the fake flowers planted in the front lawn.

They almost fooled me though, silly roosters.

let's talk about my shoes

I have only one pair of tennis shoes. I would have had two but the other pair fell apart from overuse. That happens to me a lot.

Anyway, I had my eye on these ecosneaks I saw at nordstrom once. What are ecosneaks, you may ask. Well let me explain. Ecosneaks are basically shoes made by sustainable materials. Mine are made out of hemp, recycled milk jugs and recycled tires. They're made by simple shoes which, let's be honest, is a fuckin hippie company (and I hate hippies, they smell). I got them online and was ever so excited when they came in the mail. Now they are the only tennis I own and goddamit I heart them although another pair of tennis wouldn't hurt.

in my room

The old lady is always complaining about my room and how I should clean it up. Look it's clean, believe me. Then again I am a messy person and my perception of clean is still a mess to my ma and a lot of other people.

This is just a fire hazard.

does my guitar gently weep?

Photobucket

A long time ago I decided I wanted to learn the guitar. I don't know, it just seemed like a good idea. All my friends in high school played an instrument and some had asked me to join their bands. I always declined since, well, I can't play.

To help me out in my goal my grandpa gave me one of his acoustic guitars. Great. I was this much closer to learning.

My uncle offered to teach me how to play. Awesome. I'm even closer to learning.

OK. I am practicing every afternoon for two weeks. I'll be playing in no time.

I Quit. I have a 8-page essay due. I have a test for Spanish class. I need to finish my chem lab.

Every since then my guitar has just been sitting in my room untouched for the past five years.

i am a coffee fiend

If I could marry anyone or anything, I would marry coffee.
Some people have drugs, booze, ciggs and/or crack, well, I have coffee. I have to have at least a cup a day, but generally it's about two to three. I get my fix at school. I get my fix at work and I don't even know why I drink it. It no longer keeps me up and going.

i ride on the bus into the city everyday

As a kid without a car or a license (god, i'm so fuckin lazy) I take full advantage of the L.A. public transportation system.
I got bored and I'm working on a soundslide with Andrea about public transportation so I took photos of my trip to school.

On a good day I get to school in about 30-40 minutes and on a bad day it can take well over an hour. I don't mind since I like being my myself on a bus listening to my mp3 without really having to worry about anything.

The day begins with 115 bus. Time to Wait. Wait. Wait.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Then off to the metro where I can only hope the metro will be waiting for me. For the most part I wait a few minutes.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Every time I'm at the station waiting for the metro I look to the L.A. skyline and hope to go on an adventure.

Photobucket

Time for a transfer though at the green line. Me and my people(the tan ones) wait for the Redondo Beach metro to take us to our destination.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I can only hope the smelly crazy homeless man doesn't sit next to me.

Photobucket

Another transfer. This time to the 710 that will leave me at school.

Photobucket

This may seem like a lot of transfers and there is a way to get here on less buses but I get here faster taking that many transfers. Now, is this expensive? I don't think so, not if I buy an all day pass. I figure I'm spending about $20 a week to get to school.

Photobucket

Maybe I should get a car but what I really want is a moped.

I want to see the magic

i'm such a slacker

OK. OK. OK.
I will have my story ready within an hour and a half. I will be done. I will be awesome. Stop getting distracted, Kathy!

what i do in the newsroom

So I'm trying to do soundslides. You know slideshows that hve audio an tell a story. I'm working on a bus one with Andrea but we keep having problems but hopefully we'll be able to finish it tomorrow. Cleo is in charge of the audio for the pow wow one and I'm starting to think that one will never see the light of day. ack.

Here I present to you the Annie Rexic one though. I'm mighty proud of it even if the girl comes off as dumb.

green is the new black

Who's greener: San Francisco or Los Angeles?
Both cities are vying for the greenest city in America title. I don't know but from what I saw from my recent trip up north and living in L.A. for most of my life I would perhaps give that title to San Francisco.

I hardly saw any SUVs which are a staple in L.A. living and many people rode public transportation. Yeah, people in L.A. ride the metro and bus (myself included) but those people are generally of the lower income variety. Look, that's cool but wouldn't it be cool if middle class people rode the metro as well. Imagine all the cars that would be off the streets.

The fact that San Francisco is far more public transportation friendly is one of the main reasons I want to go to school there. Sure the school seems cool but I want a metro adventure.

working hard for no money

I'm currently at the newsroom attempting to write a story. I love my desk here at the newsroom. Its me, you know messy and random.

I should have my story done by tonight, hopefully. I'll call Fielding and all will be right in the world. Don't worry Pearl I'll have my shit done.

pork swords

I never got the "Juno" backlash, you know, that adorable little movie about about a girl named Juno (played by ellen page) who happens to get pregnant by her best friend, Bleeker (played by the awesome michael cera), and decides to have the baby and give it up for adoption.

When buzz for the movie first came out, all the cool kids, hipsters, scenesters and just plain ers were raving about how great the movie was and how everyone should watch. Finally, a movie with a smart, independent quarky female lead character that the girls of America could look up to. Well apparently everyone go see "Juno" (it made well over $100 million) and all of a sudden al the cool kids turned their back on the little movie that could. All of a sudden "Juno" was a sell out and a horrible influence on little girls making them think getting pregnant is cool. Because when I make a list of things that are totally awesome/cool getting pregnant is about #4 right after doing a line of cocaine from a strippers ass. I lead a wild life.

Whatever, I'm sticking by "Juno." Yeah I watched it twice in the theatre and yeah I totally bought the dvd the day it came out. i'll admit this because i thought it was a great feel good movie. It made me want to be 16 year-old pregnant teenager. but, alas we can't all have our dreams come true.

also, i have a deep love for michael cera.
oh, i feel like such a pedophile.
